We are a Society of poetry lovers,
who meet as friends, to hear talks on poetry or to read and discuss
poems – our own and other's. The Society's principle activities
are:
- Meetings
During the summer occasional meetings are held on Sunday afternoons
at various places in Suffolk. Speakers include foremost poets and
critical writers of the day. From November to March inclusive, local groups
meet in member's homes to read and discuss poetry.
- Competition
In 1954, the bicentenary of the birth of George Crabbe, the Annual
Crabbe Memorial Poetry Competition was founded. Open world wide
to poets with a Suffolk Connection (Birth, School, Residence or
Membership of The Society) for entry forms, send a S.A.E. to The
Competition Secretary Closing date May 31st 2010. The Crabbe Competition
has the financial support of Fairweather Stephenson & Co. Solicitors.

- Portfolio
A workshop by correspondence. Writing member's own poems, with comments
made by other subscribers, are circulated to those on the Portfolio
mailing list. An additional subscription is made to cover postage.
Anyone wishing to join should contact the Portfolio Secretary.
- Newsletter
A Newsletter is sent to members twice a year. Copy/contributions are
welcome.
- Membership:
Single membership is £12.00 per annum; joint membership, for two
people at the same address, is £18.00. Student members (under
18) is £5.00. There is an additional fee of £10.00 for the
Portfolio if required. Subscriptions are due in January each year. A membership form may
be printed out from link opposite.
